Overview:

Located within the stunning wilderness area of the King Country area in the Central North Island of New Zealand. Situated near the headwaters of the Whanganui River which comprises some of the most spectacular alpine and forest scenery in New Zealand.

The hunting area comprises some 5000 acres of absolute wilderness hunting offering both Free Range and Ranch style hunting. This was host to the initial Red Deer liberations in New Zealand dating back to 1919. The early stock being sourced from the now famous English Parks of “GREAT WINDSOR” “WARNHAM” and “ INVERMARK”.

We are based four hours drive south of Auckland International Airport or an hour west of the Taupo Domestic Airport.  The outfitter strongly recommends overnighting in Auckland for those traveling from the Northern Hemisphere since it is a long flight.

We offer free range and ranch hunting for trophy red deer and pig hunting with dogs, all hunting is also available by horseback with rifle or bow. Hunting for management or cull animals is also available and is ideally suited to the Father and Son groups. Complementary small game including duck and pheasant (in season) plus goats, turkeys, rabbits and hare are also available. All hunting is fully guided.

Absolute wilderness fishing in the renowned Whakapapa or Whanganui Rivers by wading or raft for trophy rainbow or brown trout. Lake Taupo is only 30 minutes away if open water fishing is your preference.

We have two comfortable bush style huts within the hunting area where clients are able to emerse themselves in the whole experience. Game will be observed from the huts with transport to the hunting areas being either by ATV or, if preferred, by horseback.

Weather, Hunting Seasons, and Appropriate Clothing:

During the hunting season, March to September, it is possible that light snow may be experienced.  The concession is located close to the alpine area comprising the mountains.

For hunting Red Stag, the "Roar" is by far the most exciting time to hunt and runs from late February to early June.  Hunting is available, however, to the end of August for stags in hard antler.  Other species are available year round.  Fishing is available all year with only some rivers being subject to annual closed seasons to protect spawning trout.

Warm winter clothing and waterproof leather walking boots are recommended.  Outdoor clothing is readily available at local outlets.

The safari is located in the center of New Zealand's North Island and is within easy traveling distance to some of the country's renowned tourist and adventure destinations.  These include thermal pools, bungy jumping, sky diving, jet boating, lake cruising, snow skiing, and retail therapy.
